Kathmandu : Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the government is positive to declared Lakhan Thapa, Nepal’s first martyr, a national hero.

Addressing the festival ceremony organized by the Magar community on Maghi festival today at Tundikhel here, PM Prachanda assured of taking initiative to declare Lakhan Thapa a national hero as doing so will be justifiable for Thapa’s struggle against autocracy.

“I agree with your demand that Lakhan Thapa, a revolutionary leader who rose from the local level against the ruler’s extreme tyranny, to declare a national hero. I understand recognizing Thapa as a national hero will be respect for all martyrs and that of the political warriors in the revolutionary struggle of the country,” said PM Prachanda.

On the occasion, PM Prachanda lauded the Magar community as having a leading role and contribution in the democratic struggle in the country.
