Kathmandu : The World Social Forum (WSF) 16th Conference began in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The conference was started after the rally with play cards performed which will be concluded on February 19.

According to the Forum, the conference has welcomed participants from all over the world which gathered more than 30,000 people, with 1,200 organizations representing 100 different countries.

WSF marked a major turning point in the history of alter-globalization, offering a unique opportunity to highlight the struggles against neoliberal capitalism and to build bridges with movements around the world.  It was born in 2001 with the vision of “another world is possible”. The 2024 edition has the theme of calling for “another world now!”

The WSF is an open process for the convergence of a wide range of participants: social movements, workers, farmers, civil society members, marginalized communities, and anyone affected directly or indirectly by the impacts of neoliberal capitalism. It is a privileged space for linking struggles, showing that our fights are connected, and a unique opportunity to share experiences. Social movements from around the world are called to meet and build together alternative responses to crucial challenges such as climate change, peace, migration, and social justice, in a world plagued by capitalism, imperialism, and globalization.
