Ram Bahadur Bomjon sentenced to 10 yrs in jail along with a fine of Rs 500,000 in child sexual abuse case

Kathmandu : Ram Bahadur Bomjon, a self-proclaimed Little Buddha, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The District Court, Sarlahi on Monday slapped him with a 10-year jail term along with a fine of Rs 500,000 on the charge of child sexual abuse case, said Sadan Adhikari, the record-keeper at the court.

A single bench of Judge of Sarlahi District Court, Jeevan Kumar Bhandari, on June 24 convicted Bomjom of the child sexual abuse and set July 1 for determining sentence for Bomjom.

According to Sadan Adhikari, record keeper at the Sarlahi District Court, Bomjon committed a child sexual abuse in line with Section 66 (3 G) of the Act Relating to Children, 2018.

Sub-Section 3 G states, “If any person uses, or causes to use, him or her for the purpose of sexual gratification, he or she shall be deemed to have committed child sexual abuse.”

The victim was 15 years and one month old when the incident took place.

Sarlahi District Court on February 6, 2020, issued an arrest warrant against Bomjom, who originally hails from Ratanpuri, Nijgadh Municipality-12, Bara.

On December 20, 2023, Bomjom was arrested from a house based in Hattigauda, Kathmandu, along with the confiscation of Rs 33 million 467 thousand 906 including foreign currencies, almost  four years after he was issued an arrest warrant.

Bomjom had been denying all the allegations leveled against him.
