Kathmandu : The CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist) have decided not to support Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the vote of confidence.

The three opposition parties held a joint meeting on Friday and decided not to support the prime minister in the floor test.

Maoist chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane, and Unified Socialist chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, after a discussion at Singha Durbar, made the decision to stand against Oli.

“The parties have decided to vote against Prime Minister Oli’s motion to seek a vote of confidence in the Parliament,” said Ramesh Malla, personal secretary to Dahal.

These parties have a combined 62 seats in the House of Representatives.

Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to go for a floor test on Sunday, barely a week after taking the oath of office. After taking the vote of confidence, Oli plans to address the nation the same day, highlighting the objectives and priorities of the new government.

Oli is certain to secure a majority in favour of his trust motion, as he was appointed prime minister based on the signatures collected from 166 lawmakers. The prime minister needs at least 138 votes in the 275-member House to retain his position.
