Former Minister Gobinda Raj Joshi found guilty of corruption charges

Kathmandu : Former Minister and ex-Nepali Congress leader Govinda Raj Joshi has been convicted of corruption by the Supreme Court.

The court has sentenced Joshi to nine months in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 6,915,000.

The verdict was delivered by a joint bench of Judges Binod Sharma and Bal Krishna Dhakal on Sunday.

The Special Court had previously convicted Joshi of illegally amassing Rs 21,614,376 and sentenced him to one and a half years in prison.

Joshi had challenged this decision at the Supreme Court. Joshi faced seven corruption cases at the Supreme Court and has been convicted in one.

The case, which had been pending for the last 12 years, concluded with the final hearing on Sunday.

Joshi, who has served as a Minister, is also facing disciplinary actions from the Nepali Congress party.
