Kathmandu : India has won the title of the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League held in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu on Wednesday evening.

India defeated Nepal by winning second (25-14), fourth (25-21) and fifth (14-5) sets of the volleyball tournament in the final held in the covered hall of the National Sports Council a while ago.

India’s team which lost the first and third sets made a comeback and won the other sets. The reigning champion, showcased impressive defensive prowess, endurance, and technical abilities throughout the game. India exploited Nepal’s weaknesses by consistently predicting their spiking patterns and utilizing their tall, experienced blockers to counter them.

Even though Nepal won the first (25-23) and third (25-22) sets, it could not stand with the experienced and skilled players of India and failed to exact revenge on India it had suffered five years ago. In the 13th South Asian Games held in the home ground in 2019, Nepal lost to India 3-2 in the volleyball tournament and had to be content with silver medal.

Unlike in the match against Iran on Tuesday during which Nepal rarely made mistakes in services, it lost points through services in the match against India.

Despite Saraswati Chaudhary’s solid-rock spikes, Nepal could not turn the tables in its favor after promising players Niruta Thagunna and Usha Bhandari could not perform as expected. Niruta, Sumitra, and Kabita made a mistake each in services. Salina, a defensive player (libero), who played brilliantly in the first three sets, committed some mistakes in the rest of the rests.

On the other hand, Sooriya, Salini, Juhi, and Anushree performed brilliantly in the match for the victory of India.
