Three children of a family die of ‘food poisoning’ in Bara

Bara : Three children of a family have died due to food poisoning in Simraungadh of Bara district.

The District Police Office, Bara informed that three children of Naresh Ram, a resident of Simraungadh Municipality-7, died due to food poisoning.

“They slept after eating rice with fish brought from a pond nearby their house and were taken to the hospital after falling ill on Saturday night,” DSP Prakash Sapkota of District Police Office, Bara told Nepalkhabar, “They died in the course of treatment on Monday.”

The deceased are 9-year-old Lalima, 7-year-old Pushpa and 5-year-old Krishnanandan Ram. They died in Kalaiya and Birgunj hospitals in the course of treatment.

Doctors said that they died of food poisoning. The children were taken to the hospital by their parents after they complained of stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating.

DSP Sapkota said that even though all the family members ate the fish meal, the parents did not fall ill.

“According to the information we have received so far, although three children died, nothing has happened to the adults,” Sapkota said. We are carrying out further information into the case.”

He said that the police under the leadership of Police Inspector Nabin Rai of the area police office, Simraungadh, are investigating the incident.

The children were initially taken to the local Simraungadh health clinic for treatment after developing health problems after eating.

However, the health workers at the clinic referred the ailing children to the Provincial Hospital, Kalaiya for further treatment saying that their health condition was critical.

Lalima died before reaching the hospital. Kalaiya Hospital also referred the remaining two children to the National Medical College in Birgunj after their condition deteriorated further.

Pushpa Ram and Krishnanandan Ram also died during treatment at the National Medical College, police said.

DSP Sapkota said that the bodies of the three deceased children were handed over to their parents after post-mortem.
