Another avalanche hits Thasang in Mustang, blocks Bokshikhola
Pokhara : Another avalanche occurred at Manapathi Himal in the Dhaulagiri mountain range in Mustang district on Tuesday evening leading to the blockage of Bokshikhola (Bokshi River).
Earlier, an avalanche had struck at Mulkharka at Thasang Rural Municipality-2 in the district on August 23, said Gautam Sherchan, Spokesperson at Thasang Rural Municipality.
Sherchan, also Chairperson of ward no 2, added that the avalanche occurred at 5:45 pm today yet again and resulted in complete blockage of Bokshikhola, a tributary river of Kali Gandaki.
“Earlier, the debris of the avalanche had been piled up at Mulkharka area. This time’s avalanche has extended the debris far down to Bokshikhola,” he described.
Although there is no human settlement in the avalanche site, ruling out the possibility of human casualties and fatalities among cattle, the avalanche and its debris could pose significant challenges for vehicular movement since the Beni-Jomsom road that lies along the Bokshikhola.
It may be noted that a massive avalanche struck Tukuche Himal at Kobang of Thasang Rural Municipality-2 on November 14, 2021, and March 5, 2022 which resulted in deaths of over 150 yaks.
