Nepal re-elected Chair and Bhusal elected General Secretary

Kathmandu : Madhav Kumar Nepal has been reelected as the chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist).

The 10th national convention of the Unified Socialist which kicked off in the federal capital on June 30 reelected Nepal as the party chairman for another term.

Ghanashyam Bhusal who was vying for the post of chairman had to contain with the general secretary. Similarly, Jhala Nath Khanal has been reelected as the senior leader of the party unopposed.

Nepal, Khanal and Bhusal were reelected as chairman, senior leader and general secretary, respectively following a consensus reached among top leaders of the party.

The consensus proposal was floated in the convention hall by the presidium chairman Jhala Nath Khanal. It was endorsed by the convention hall unanimously.

The national convention of the Unified Socialist will elect a 299-member central committee including 21 office-bearers.

Earlier, Bhusal had staked a claim for the post of chairman advocating for a transfer in leadership in the party. Bhusal’s supporters had been demanding that the post of chairman would be made ceremonial in case Nepal did not quit the post.

As many as 1,849 representatives are participating in the national convention from across the country.
