Kathmandu. The Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Nepal Communist Party has officially split. A faction of the party has reorganized the leadership, citing Biplav’s increasing proximity to the ruling CPN-UML instead of pursuing unity with the Revolutionary Communist Party.

A national assembly held in Kathmandu on Friday unanimously elected Milan C as the new General Secretary. Informing the media, Milan C said the decision was taken after Biplav’s recent political moves were seen as a deviation from the party’s ideological line and mandate.

Central committee member Sharad C stated that the assembly resolved to restructure the party as the leadership had been moving forward in contradiction to the mandate granted by the recently formed central committee. He claimed that a majority of central members support the new leadership.

According to Sharad, the faction plans to hold a press conference in Kathmandu on Saturday to formally announce details of the restructuring and future strategy.
