KATHMANDU. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has asked residents to keep their household waste at home until further notice, as operations at the landfill site in Bancharedanda have been obstructed once again.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the Department of Environment Management requested citizens not to dump garbage on streets or in public spaces, saying waste collection has been temporarily halted due to ongoing disruptions at the landfill site in Nuwakot.
“We request everyone to store waste safely within their homes for now,” the notice read, acknowledging the inconvenience but urging cooperation.
Waste movement from Kathmandu has been stalled for days as obstructions continue at Bancharedanda, the only functioning final waste disposal site for the Valley. With garbage trucks unable to reach the landfill, the city says it has no option but to ask residents to help manage the situation from home, at least for the time being.
Authorities say they are trying to resolve the issue and resume collection services as soon as possible. Residents, meanwhile, are hopeful that a permanent solution to the Valley’s recurring waste crisis will finally be found.
