
Kathmandu, November 14 – The government has launched preparatory measures to regulate the spread of misleading and false information. The Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated joint discussions with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Press Council Nepal, and the Cyber Bureau.
Speaking at an all-party meeting held at the ministry, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal assured that the initiative would not compromise the right to information or press freedom, but would focus on preventing unauthorized dissemination of information.
According to Ministry spokesperson Anand Kafle, the meeting concluded with a plan to develop a concrete action strategy for regulating misleading content. Participants highlighted the rapid spread of harmful and false information through social media and other digital platforms, which could negatively affect personal reputations, institutional credibility, social harmony, and national security.
Stakeholders also stressed the need for a nationwide digital literacy campaign to prevent citizens from being misled.
The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal, Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Radhika Aryal, Chief of Nepal Telecommunications Authority Bhupendra Bhandari, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Anand Kafle, Chief Officer of Press Council Nepal Jhabindra Bhusal, and representatives from the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau and Nepal Telecom.
