Nepali journalist Nripendra Lal Shrestha has been honoured with the third Yugul Kishore Shukla International Journalism Award at an international conference on peace and regional cooperation held in New Delhi, India.
The conference, organised by Bharatiya Vidyapeeth and the SAARC Journalists Forum India Chapter, brought together journalists from Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Bhutan to discuss the media’s role in promoting peace across South Asia.
Mr Shrestha received the award in recognition of his contribution to journalism, alongside India’s Shashibhushan Kumar and a Sri Lankan journalist.
Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasised that while achieving lasting peace in the SAARC region remains challenging, responsible journalism can help build dialogue, mutual understanding and regional cooperation.
The event was chaired by Professor M.N. Hoda, Director of Bharatiya Vidyapeeth. Among those who spoke were SAARC Journalists Forum International President Raju Lama and General Secretary Md. Abdur Rahman. Representatives from Bhutan and Pakistan also delivered video messages.
