KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has decided to introduce an additional weekly public holiday, making it a two day weekend. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held today.

Previously, Saturday was the only official weekly holiday in Nepal. With the new decision, Sunday will also be observed as a public holiday, resulting in a two day weekend across the country.

The government had earlier attempted to implement a Sunday holiday but the initiative was not successful at the time.

Following this decision, government offices and public institutions will now operate five days a week instead of six.
