Nurses join nationwide protest outside Civil Hospital

KATHMANDU: Nurses from private hospitals and clinics across Nepal have taken to the streets, demanding that the government’s minimum wage and service benefit provisions be fully implemented.

The demonstrations, organized under the banner of the Nepal Nursing Association, have spread nationwide with healthcare workers voicing frustration over what they describe as years of being undervalued and underpaid.

On Friday, nurses from Civil Hospital in Kathmandu joined the movement, staging a peaceful sit-in at the hospital premises. Holding placards and chanting slogans, they called for dignity, fair pay, and better working conditions.

“Our work is vital to the nation’s health system, yet our salaries don’t reflect that reality,” said one of the protesting nurses. “We are simply asking for what’s rightfully ours, the government’s own declared minimum standards.”

The protest comes as the association continues talks with authorities, urging immediate action to enforce wage regulations and ensure all private health institutions comply. Despite the ongoing agitation, nurses emphasized that their protest remains peaceful and that patient care will not be disrupted.
