Kathmandu: World record holding climber Kami Rita Sherpa has successfully summited Mount Everest for the 32nd time, extending his own record for the highest number of ascents of the world’s tallest mountain.

Kami Rita reached the 8,849 meter peak on Saturday morning during the ongoing spring climbing season, once again cementing his status as one of the greatest high-altitude climbers in mountaineering history.

According to expedition officials, the veteran Sherpa climber safely reached the summit with members of an international expedition team and is currently descending toward Everest Base Camp.

Widely celebrated in Nepal and the global mountaineering community, Kami Rita has become a symbol of endurance, skill, and the vital role of Sherpa climbers in Himalayan expeditions.

He first summited Everest in 1994 and has since scaled the mountain almost every year.

Preparations are also underway in Kathmandu to welcome him following the historic achievement. Tourism entrepreneurs, mountaineering organizations, and well wishers are expected to honor the veteran climber upon his return to the capital.

This year’s spring climbing season has seen hundreds of climbers attempt Everest, with favorable weather conditions allowing several summit pushes in recent days.
