    सिन्धुली विवाद पेचिलाे प्रचण्ड दबाबमा

    सिन्धुली, नेपाली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीभित्र सिन्धुली जिल्लाको उम्मेदवार चयनलाई लिएर देखिएको विवादले केन्द्रीय नेतृत्वसम्म तरंग पैदा गरेको छ। पार्टीले आधिकारिक रूपमा सिफारिस गरेका उम्मेदवारलाई पन्छाउँदै राजन दाहाललाई उम्मेदवार बनाइएपछि असन्तुष्टि सतहमा आएको हो। यही असन्तुष्टिको परिणामस्वरूप बरिष्ठ पत्रकार महेश्वर दाहालले स्वतन्त्र उम्मेदवारी दर्ता गराएपछि घटनाक्रमले नयाँ मोड लिएको छ।

    पार्टी निर्णयविरुद्ध स्वतन्त्र उम्मेदवारी दिएका महेश्वर दाहाललाई सिन्धुलीका अधिकांश पार्टी पंक्ति, नेता तथा कार्यकर्ताले खुला समर्थन जनाएपछि स्थिति झनै पेचिलो बनेको छ। स्थानीय स्तरमा प्रभावशाली, निष्ठावान र लामो समयदेखि पत्रकारिता तथा सामाजिक आन्दोलनमा सक्रिय दाहाललाई समर्थन गर्ने लहर बढ्दै जाँदा पार्टीको केन्द्रीय निर्णयप्रति गम्भीर प्रश्न उठ्न थालेका छन्।


    सिन्धुली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीका स्थानीय नेताहरूका अनुसार उम्मेदवार छनोट प्रक्रियामा पार्टी विधि, मापदण्ड र स्थानीय कार्यकर्ताको भावना बेवास्ता गरिएको छ। “पार्टीले सिफारिस गरेको नाम हटाएर बाहिरबाट उम्मेदवार थोपर्नु गलत हो,” एक स्थानीय नेताले भने, “यसले पार्टीभित्र गहिरो असन्तोष जन्माएको छ।”


    बरिष्ठ पत्रकार महेश्वर दाहालले स्वतन्त्र उम्मेदवारी घोषणा गर्दै आफू कुनै व्यक्ति वा समूहविरुद्ध नभई पार्टीको सिद्धान्त, लोकतान्त्रिक अभ्यास र स्थानीय कार्यकर्ताको सम्मानका लागि मैदानमा उत्रिएको बताएका छन्। उनले सिन्धुलीको विकास, सुशासन र जनउत्तरदायी राजनीतिलाई प्राथमिकता दिने प्रतिबद्धता जनाएका छन्।


    महेश्वर दाहालप्रति देखिएको व्यापक समर्थनले नेपाली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीका अध्यक्ष पुष्पकमल दाहाल ‘प्रचण्ड’ समेत दबाबमा परेका छन्। पार्टीका पुर्व उप महासचिव हरिवाेल गजुरेल ,बसन्त माझी , पानीराज बमजन लगायत पार्टीभित्रैबाट निर्णय सच्याउनुपर्ने आवाज उठ्न थालेपछि केन्द्रीय नेतृत्व असहज अवस्थामा पुगेको बताइन्छ। सिन्धुलीको घटनाले पार्टीभित्र बढ्दो केन्द्रीयकरण, गुटबन्दी र निर्णय प्रक्रियामाथि पुनः बहस सुरु गराएको छ।


    राजनीतिक विश्लेषकहरूका अनुसार यो घटनाक्रमले आगामी चुनावमा पार्टीको सांगठनिक अवस्था र जनविश्वासमाथि असर पार्न सक्छ। “स्थानीय तहको भावना बेवास्ता गर्दा पार्टी कमजोर हुन्छ,” एक विश्लेषकले भने, “महेश्वर दाहालप्रतिको समर्थन केवल व्यक्तिको पक्षमा होइन, पार्टीभित्रको असन्तुष्टिको संकेत हो।”


    हाल सिन्धुलीमा चुनावी माहोल तातिँदै गएको छ। पार्टी निर्णय र जनभावनाबीचको टकराव कसरी समाधान हुन्छ भन्ने विषयमा सबैको चासो केन्द्रित छ। महेश्वर दाहालको स्वतन्त्र उम्मेदवारी र त्यसलाई प्राप्त समर्थनले नेपाली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीभित्र आत्मसमीक्षा आवश्यक भएको सन्देश दिएको छ।

    Nepal election body reviews complaints against candidates, publishes provisional list after 5pm

    KATHMANDU; Nepal’s Election Commission is reviewing complaints filed against several candidates who registered their nominations for the upcoming House of Representatives election, officials said on Wednesday.

    The review process began on Wednesday afternoon following the close of the nomination period. According to Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur Jisi, the commission will publish the provisional list of candidates after 5:00 pm on Wednesday.

    “The Election Commission will complete the scrutiny of nomination papers and complaints today and publish the list of candidates between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm,” Jisi said.

    Under the election schedule, candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations on Friday, Magh 9 (January 23), from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The final list of candidates will be published the same day between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, followed by the allocation of election symbols from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

    The programmes will be conducted through 77 chief election officer offices and 88 election officer offices across the country.

    According to data received by the commission, a total of 3,487 candidates have registered for the parliamentary election nationwide. Of them, 3,089 are men, 396 women and one from the third gender category.

    Complaints have been filed against five candidates from four districts: one from Sunsari constituency No. 2, one from Rautahat constituency No. 1, two from Bhaktapur constituency No. 2 and one from Kailali constituency No. 1. The complaints are currently under review at the respective election officer offices, the commission said.

    Arriving with supporters amid traditional music and celebrations, Prachanda addressed a gathering after registering his candidacy, describing Rukum East as a land of change and sacrifice.

    He is contesting the election on the proposal of Jeevan Khadka, son of martyr Laxiram KC ‘Pawan’. A large number of party leaders, cadres, and supporters were present during the nomination process.

    Bhattarai Says Geopolitical Balance Drives His Candidacy From Gorkha-2

    Gorkha, Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said his decision to contest the upcoming parliamentary election from Gorkha constituency–2 is driven not by personal ambition but by the need to safeguard national sovereignty and geopolitical balance.

    Speaking at a press briefing in Gorkha on Sunday, Dr Bhattarai said that although he had earlier announced he would not run for office, the changing political context and requests from local residents prompted him to reconsider. He confirmed that he will contest the House of Representatives election scheduled for February 21.

    “The House of Representatives is the supreme forum of people’s representation,” Bhattarai said. “Key decisions related to national sovereignty, security and foreign policy must be taken from within parliament. I believe an active role inside the House is essential to maintain geopolitical balance and steer the country towards a stronger and independent future.”

    Bhattarai said national agendas could be pursued more effectively from within parliament than from outside it. Following internal consultations, he has decided to contest the election from Gorkha–2 representing the Progressive Democratic Party (Pralopa).

    काठमाडौँ : मतदाताका निर्वाचनसम्बन्धी जिज्ञासालाई निःशुल्क रूपमा समाधान गर्ने उद्देश्यसहित निर्वाचन आयोगले आजदेखि ‘कल सेन्टर’ सेवा शुभारम्भ गरेको छ।

    निर्वाचनसम्बन्धी कुनै जानकारी लिन वा जिज्ञासा राख्न चाहने मतदाताले टोल फ्री नम्बर ११०२ मा सम्पर्क गर्न सक्ने निर्वाचन आयोगका प्रवक्ता नारायणप्रसाद भट्टराईले जानकारी दिनुभयो।

    उहाँका अनुसार ‘कल सेन्टर’मा हाल छ वटा डेस्क स्थापना गरिएको छ, जहाँबाट एकै समयमा मतदाताका प्रश्नहरूको उत्तर प्रदान गरिनेछ। कामको चाप बढेमा डेस्क संख्या थप्न सकिने व्यवस्था गरिएको आयोगले जनाएको छ।

    ‘कल सेन्टर’मा पहिलो फोन गण्डकी प्रदेशबाट आएको थियो। फोन गर्ने व्यक्तिले यसअघि नै प्रकाशित भइसकेको लोकसेवा आयोगको परीक्षा निर्वाचन आचारसंहिताका कारण प्रभावित हुन्छ कि हुँदैन भन्ने जिज्ञासा राखेका थिए। त्यसमा ‘कल सेन्टर’का अधिकारीहरूले पहिले नै तय भइसकेका परीक्षा निर्वाचन आचारसंहिताका कारण प्रभावित नहुने स्पष्ट जवाफ दिएका थिए।

    आयोगका अनुसार ‘कल सेन्टर’ बिहान ९ बजेदेखि साँझ ६ बजेसम्म सञ्चालन हुनेछ। आगामी फागुन २१ गते हुने प्रतिनिधिसभा सदस्य निर्वाचनसम्बन्धी जानकारी दिनका लागि यो सेवा आजदेखि सुरु भई निर्वाचित उम्मेदवारलाई प्रमाणपत्र नदिइएसम्म सञ्चालनमा रहनेछ।

    KATHMANDU: Public Service Broadcasting Nepal (PSB Nepal), which oversees Radio Nepal and Nepal Television, has been enrolled in the Social Security Fund.

    The decision was taken at a meeting of PSB Nepal’s Board of Directors on 29 Poush, which approved operating guidelines for the fund and resolved to register the institutions under the scheme. The enrolment has taken effect from the month of Magh.

    PSB Nepal said the move would extend social security benefits to employees working on contract, bulletin-based assignments and daily wages within the organisation.

    The enrolment marks a significant step towards expanding social protection for non-permanent staff in Nepal’s public broadcasting sector.

    KATHMANDU: Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol has stepped in as the acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City after Mayor Balendra Shah resigned from his post.

    Under Nepal’s Local Government Operation Act, 2017, the deputy mayor automatically assumes the mayor’s duties when the position falls vacant. Dangol took on the role immediately following Shah’s resignation.

    Mayor Shah resigned shortly before visiting the office of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

    City officials say the transition follows the legal process, with Dangol now responsible for overseeing the day-to-day affairs of the metropolitan city until further arrangements are made.

    Nepal’s National Assembly has begun its 19th session, with lawmakers expected to take up key legislative business amid ongoing political negotiations and public pressure for effective governance.

    The session opened in Kathmandu following a formal call by the President, in line with constitutional provisions. Government representatives said the Upper House would focus on deliberating pending bills, reviewing national policies and strengthening parliamentary oversight during the sitting.

    At the opening meeting, senior leaders stressed the importance of constructive debate and cooperation across party lines. They said the National Assembly, as the federal parliament’s upper chamber, has a crucial role in ensuring legislative continuity, stability and long-term policy scrutiny.

    Officials indicated that priority would be given to bills related to governance, economic management and federal implementation. Some lawmakers also raised concerns over delays in legislation and called for more effective coordination between the two houses of parliament.

    The session begins at a time when Nepal faces economic pressures and growing public expectations for political accountability. Analysts say the performance of the National Assembly will be closely watched, particularly its ability to move beyond procedural debates and contribute to substantive lawmaking.

    Kathmandu Traffic Awareness Week Ends with Cultural Appeal for Safer Roads

    Kathmandu’s week-long Traffic Awareness Campaign has concluded with cultural performances and public outreach programmes, as authorities renewed calls for shared responsibility in reducing road accidents across the capital.

    Organised by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the campaign aimed to promote safer road behaviour among drivers, passengers and pedestrians. The initiative was held under the theme “Responsible citizens, safer roads – a shared responsibility” and ran for seven days, culminating in a public event in Thamel.

    According to traffic police officials, the programme combined awareness drives with cultural performances, street theatre, blood donation camps for accident victims, driver training sessions and eye health camps. Thousands of residents were reached through these activities, officials said.

    Speaking at the closing ceremony, Nepal Police Chief Dan Bahadur Karki emphasised that traffic safety cannot be ensured by enforcement alone. He said meaningful reductions in road accidents depend on responsible behaviour from all road users.

    “If drivers, passengers and pedestrians act responsibly, accidents can be prevented,” he said, urging people to remember that families expect them to return home safely.

    Mr Karki also highlighted the role of pedestrians, calling on them to use designated crossings and avoid unsafe road behaviour. “Traffic police presence alone cannot reduce accidents,” he added, noting that public compliance with traffic rules is essential.

    Senior traffic officials said the campaign was designed not only to reduce accidents but also to encourage a culture of civic responsibility. Authorities expressed hope that the awareness raised during the week would translate into long-term behavioural change on Kathmandu’s increasingly congested roads.

    Health Condition of Rabilaxmi Chitrakar Improving After Fire Injury

    KATHMANDU: The condition of Rabilaxmi Chitrakar, the wife of former prime minister Jhala Nath Khanal, is reported to be improving after she was seriously injured in a fire incident during the Gen Z movement.

    On Wednesday, NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Joint Coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal visited Khanal’s residence in Dallu to inquire about her health and extend wishes for her recovery.

    Chitrakar returned home last week following treatment in India. Former prime minister Khanal said her condition is stable and that medical care is continuing, according to Prachanda’s private secretariat.
