
Kavrepalanchok, Sept 15 : The Kavrepalanchok District Police have intensified efforts to recover weapons lost during the ‘Gen Z Generation’ protests and to identify individuals involved in looting and other crimes.
Since Saturday, police have launched a special operation, recovering several firearms and ammunition while arresting eight individuals connected to criminal activities. Those arrested include 26-year-old Sijan Suwal, 28-year-old Subash Gautam, an 18-year-old teenager, and a 15-year-old child from Banepa-9; 21-year-old Timothy Tamang from Temal Rural Municipality-2; 34-year-old Achut Khadka from Panauti-10; 20-year-old Mahesh Mukhia from Bara; and 24-year-old Sushant Lo from Makwanpur.
Additionally, 34-year-old Santosh Shrestha, residing in Banepa-9, was arrested from his residence along with a pistol and 36 rounds of ammunition.
During the operation, 37 prisoners who had escaped during the protests were also recaptured and sent back to their respective prisons on Sunday. According to Police Superintendent Komal Shah, the recaptured prisoners include 18 from Central Jail, 14 from Dillibazar Jail, three from Nakhu Jail, and two from Sindhuli Jail.
Those held at Dhulikhel detention include 12 accused of homicide, 9 of sexual assault, 4 of drug-related offenses, 4 of theft, 2 of kidnapping or hostage-taking, 2 of traffic-related killings, 2 of fraud, 1 of human trafficking, and 1 with an overstay charge.
Superintendent Shah stated, “We are accelerating the identification and arrest of individuals involved in looting, theft, and vandalism during the protests. All subordinate police units have been instructed to track down those responsible for arson, destruction, and robbery.”
This operation aims to bring protest-related crimes under control and ensure public safety across the district.
