KATHMANDU: The government has announced that the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) will be published within one month of the exams ending.

Following instructions from Education Minister Sasmita Pokharel, the National Examination Board has approved a new procedure to check answer sheets directly at exam centers and release results much faster. In previous years, results were typically published around 79 days after the exams.

The SEE exams are begin Today. To improve the school level examination system, answer sheets will now be checked and verified immediately at the exam centers after the exams conclude. Earlier, answer sheets were first sent to district police offices and then to marking centers, which took more time.

Previously, answer sheets were checked through 55 marking centers across the country by subject experts. Now, under the new system, checking will be done locally to speed up the process.

The board has already revised its guidelines. According to the new plan, answer sheets must be checked within two days after each subject exam. Marks will then be entered at the district Education Development and Coordination Units and sent to the Examination Control Office.

However, officials say there are challenges. Many districts lack enough computer operators and staff to enter students’ marks efficiently, creating confusion about how the process will be managed.

Around 512,421 students are taking part in this year’s SEE exams, which will be conducted across 1,966 exam centers nationwide. The exams cover 128 subjects including general, technical, and Sanskrit streams.

In past years, teachers were trained to ensure uniform marking standards. But this year, such preparations seem unlikely. Instead, more responsibility has been given to exam center heads.

While the goal is to publish results faster, officials stress that maintaining accuracy, fairness, and reliability of students’ results is just as important.
