CHITWAN: Two young men from Khairahani Municipality–5 in Chitwan have been granted Nepali citizenship in their mother’s name, marking a first for the district.

Nischal Chaudhary and Shankar Chaudhary received their citizenship certificates under the name of their mother, Nisha Mahato (Chaudhary), from Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal.

Officials say this is the first instance in the district where citizenship has been issued in a mother’s name, following recent amendments to Nepal’s Citizenship Act and related regulations.

The change is seen as a significant step towards recognising maternal identity in citizenship certification.
