KATHMANDU: An intergenerational dialogue aimed at ensuring a free, fair and effective election on Falgun 21 was held Today at the office of NGO Federation Kathmandu in Buddhanagar.

The programme, organised by NGO Federation Kathmandu, brought together representatives from civil society, the media, and election authorities to discuss ways to enhance public participation and strengthen democratic practices ahead of the upcoming polls.

Speaking at the event, Shobha Aryal, President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Kathmandu Chapter, said democracy is strengthened when all generations actively engage in the process.

“Democracy becomes stronger only when all generations actively participate,” she said, adding that citizenship goes beyond casting a vote and includes responsibility towards nation building.

Ram Bhattarai, President of NGO Federation Kathmandu, emphasised the need for cooperation among civic organisations working under the same legal framework. He said coordinated efforts on public issues would serve the national interest and help ensure credible elections.

The programme featured discussions on two key issues related to the upcoming election. Sita Pun, Deputy Secretary at the Election Commission, spoke on the election code of conduct, while Naresh Raj Shrestha, Secretary of NGO Federation Bagmati, presented on intergenerational engagement in the electoral process.

Chief Guest Nani Maya Thapa, Senior Vice President of NGO Federation of Nepal, also addressed the gathering. The event was chaired by Ram Bhattarai and facilitated by advocate Nirmal Upreti.
