
Kathmandu: In Kathmandu, a two day mega eye camp has been jointly organized by Budhanilkantha Hospital and Tilganga Eye Hospital. The camp provides complimentary medications, eyeglasses and cataract screening services.
According to Budhanilkantha Municipality’s Mayor, Mitharam Adhikari, the camp hosted at the municipal hospital includes eye examinations, distribution of required medicines and spectacles and arrangements for free cataract operations for individuals found to have cataracts.
Mayor Adhikari noted that the municipality has consistently been delivering diverse health services aimed at improving residents’ access not only to eye care but also to other medical services.

He stated, “The eye is one of the most important organs of the human body. If there is a problem with eyesight, life becomes very difficult. Therefore, this type of camp is important for identifying eye related problems within the municipality. We have been giving special priority to the health sector to improve citizens’ access to healthcare.”
Shambhu Bhattarai, Ward Chairperson of Budhanilkantha Municipality Ward No. 12, also affirmed that the municipality has always prioritized the health concerns of its residents. He added that the eye camp will aid in detecting eye related issues in the community and that the municipality remains dedicated to public health.
Gopal Prasad Pokharel, Chief Executive Officer of Budhanilkantha Hospital, explained that the large eye camp was arranged under special health service initiatives, alongside 24 hour emergency services for patients. He assured that all necessary services for attendees would be provided free of cost. During the camp held on Wednesday, patients were examined and given medicines and eyeglasses as needed.

He further informed that cataract surgeries for selected patients would be performed at no cost on Jestha 13.
Pokharel said, “In recent times, age-related eye problems have increased. In addition, new types of eye diseases, including cataracts, are also being seen. That is why such camps are being organized. We are providing all forms of treatment for participants free of charge.”
Similarly, Mahesh Parajuli, External Eye Program Officer at Tilganga Eye Institute, mentioned that the camp was arranged in partnership with Budhanilkantha Hospital to reach more people in need of services. He reiterated that all services offered at the camp are entirely free.
He also advised that every person over the age of 40 should undergo at least one eye examination, and that individuals with diabetes and high blood pressure should have their eyes checked annually.
