KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh has accused the government of being run from outside Singha Durbar in an authoritarian and “gangster-like” manner.

Speaking at Thursday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Singh said the parliamentary system requires the government to function under the leadership and authority of the prime minister. However, he claimed that the present administration was increasingly being controlled by advisers and the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

Singh also questioned the backgrounds and influence of the prime minister’s advisers, arguing that decision-making had shifted away from the formal government structure. He claimed that even a single adviser could contribute to the government’s downfall.

He further accused the government of undermining the spirit of the Constitution and warned that it could face serious political consequences if it alienates the Madhesi community, which he said had played a significant role in bringing the government to power.

Singh also criticised the Home Minister over alleged threats directed at journalists and media workers. Referring to the media as the fourth pillar of the state, he said any wrongdoing should be investigated and dealt with according to law, but the government should not resort to threats or intimidation.
