KATHMANDU: The government has recommended 13 individuals for appointment as ambassadors to various countries, including India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan.

A Cabinet meeting held on Friday under the leadership of Prime Minister Balendra Shah recommended the ambassadorial nominees for 13 diplomatic missions.

Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said the government had selected qualified individuals from diverse professional backgrounds, including experts, academics and professionals, for the ambassadorial positions.

The nominees will now undergo a parliamentary hearing process. Following the completion of the hearing, the government will seek consent from the respective countries before forwarding the names for formal appointment.

Once the host countries grant their approval, the President will appoint the nominees as ambassadors.

The proposed ambassadors are:

  • Dr. Nischalnath Pandey — India
  • Dr. Kalyanraj Sharma — China
  • Chiranjung Thapa — United States
  • Former Army Chief Gaurav Shumsher Rana — United Kingdom
  • Jigyan Kumar Thapa — Japan
  • Suresh Kumar Karna — Israel
  • Prapti Sherchan — Spain
  • Sharu Joshi — Germany
  • Dr. Padmakshi Rana — Oman
  • Chudamani Kharel — Malaysia
  • Prof. Dr. Sangam Shrestha — South Korea
  • Dr. Manchal Jha — Sri Lanka
  • Giri Bahadur Sunar — Saudi Arabia
