KATHMANDU — Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising has pledged to fulfill the demands of residents living near the Bancharedanda landfill site within 15 days. Following his commitment, locals have agreed to allow the resumption of waste disposal at the site.

For the past four days, locals had stopped the dumping of garbage, prompting the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to issue a notice urging residents not to take out household waste.

Although a meeting held on Friday at the Ministry of Urban Development with representatives from the affected municipalities and stakeholders ended without a conclusion, Minister Ghising personally visited Bancharedanda on Sunday morning to resolve the issue.

According to Suman Tamang, Chairperson of Kakani Rural Municipality, the minister assured the community that all previously agreed-upon commitments would be implemented within 15 days.

“The minister has committed to carrying out the agreements that were made earlier but not yet implemented,” Tamang told Red Voice. “He also stated that if the commitments are not fulfilled within the given timeframe, the locals have the right to resume their protest.”
