KATHMANDU: Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public to remain on high alert as thunderstorms, lightning, hail and rain are expected to affect various parts of the country from Wednesday evening.

According to meteorologist Sanjeeb Adhikari, strong winds are likely in Dadeldhura and Doti in Sudurpashchim Province; Bardiya, Banke, Dang and Arghakhanchi in Lumbini Province; Dhanusha and Bara in Madhesh Province; and Morang and nearby districts in Koshi Province.

The Department said the windstorm is expected to begin at 5:45 pm on Wednesday and continue until 7:45 am Thursday.

As the westerly weather system moves eastward, there is a high possibility of widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, windstorms and hail in many regions.

Citing potential impacts on daily life, agriculture, transportation and electricity services, the Department has called on the public to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant.
