Kathmandu : The stage is set for a grand finale as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2026 Final at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. The title-deciding clash is scheduled to begin at 7:45 PM NST on Sunday evening.
With both teams chasing their second IPL title, the match promises high drama on a venue that holds special memories for each side.
Head-to-Head and Venue History
The rivalry between RCB and GT has been closely contested with Bengaluru holding a narrow 5–4 advantage across nine encounters. This season RCB have dominated winning two of the three meetings.
However, Gujarat Titans will draw confidence from their sole victory this year coming at this very venue in Ahmedabad.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, known for its massive scale and vibrant atmosphere on final nights, features diverse pitch options.
The final will be played on the mixed-soil Pitch No. 6, which has a reputation for being highly batting-friendly. Earlier this year, it witnessed 255 runs in a T20 World Cup final. Notably, GT defeated RCB on this same pitch earlier in the season while RCB secured their maiden IPL title here last year.
Form and Path to the Final
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have looked every bit the defending champions throughout the season. They have crossed 200 runs on nine occasions and successfully chased down 200 plus totals twice, showcasing impressive batting depth.
Despite having only Virat Kohli in the tournament’s top 10 run scorers, contributions have come from across the order with players like Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Tim David, Krunal Pandya and Venkatesh Iyer delivering crucial performances.
In contrast, Gujarat Titans have taken a more challenging route to the final. After an even start with three wins and three losses, they surged with seven victories in their next 10 matches to secure a top-two finish.
This cushion allowed them to recover from a Qualifier 1 setback and advance through Qualifier 2. Their resurgence has been significantly boosted by the inclusion of Jason Holder who replaced Glenn Phillips and has taken 17 wickets in 10 matches with his disciplined test match length bowling.
Key Battles and Strategic Insights
A major point of interest will be GT’s top order strength against RCB’s potent new ball attack of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler will need to navigate the early overs effectively as they did against Jofra Archer in Qualifier 2 to set up a strong total.
However, GT’s heavy reliance on their top three remains a concern especially with only a one-day turnaround before the final.
RCB’s balanced and versatile batting lineup gives them excellent adaptability in what is expected to be a high-scoring contest. GT, on the other hand, have leaned into a more disciplined, red ball influenced approach this season which has served them well in key moments.
A Historic Night Awaits
The final carries deep significance for both franchises. Gujarat Titans won their maiden title at this venue in 2022 while RCB ended their long wait for silverware here last season.
A victory for RCB would see them join the elite club of successful title defenders alongside Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. For GT it would reaffirm their status as one of the IPL’s modern powerhouses.
After 73 matches filled with twists and turns, the 2026 IPL season culminates in a glitzy showdown in Ahmedabad. With a batting paradise expected and history on the line, one team will seize the moment and lift the trophy tonight.
