Kathmandu: Medical activist and senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC has been admitted to Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi after his health deteriorated during his 24th hunger strike.

Dr KC, who has been staging a fast-unto-death at the Krishna Temple Dharamshala since Thursday, was taken to the hospital on Saturday after a medical examination revealed a sharp drop in his blood sugar level.

According to his aide, Amrit Jaishi, doctors advised immediate intensive care treatment following the examination. He was subsequently shifted to Seti Provincial Hospital for further medical care.

Dr KC launched his latest hunger strike with a five-point charter of demands, focusing on reforms in Nepal’s health sector and broader public welfare issues.

His condition had been worsening steadily, with symptoms including muscle cramps, difficulty speaking, and mobility problems, compounded by complications from a previous leg operation.

Despite his hospitalization, Dr KC has vowed to continue the hunger strike until the government addresses his key demands. While the government has expressed its willingness to resolve the issues through dialogue, no agreement has yet been reached.
