Ramechhap landslide: All members of three houses missing; two bodies retrieved

Ramechhap : The bodies of two people, including an infant, among those who went missing in a landslide in Doramba-Shailung Rural Municipality-3 Lekkharka, Ramechhap have been recovered.

Inspector Kaushal Neupane of the District Police Office, Ramechhap informed that the bodies of 30-year-old Chandika Shrestha and 18-month-old boy Amus Shrestha have been retrieved.

“Three houses were completely washed away by the landslide,” Neupane told Nepalkhabar, “It is not clear how many people were there in the three houses swept away by the landslide. Our team has just reached the spot and is carrying out rescue work.”

He said that three houses were swept away by a landslide in Doramba-Shailung rural municipality 3 Lekkhark at 3:30 am today.

A while ago, Ramechhap police chief DSP Pradeep Kumar Singh informed that eight people were missing in the landslide.

However, information officer Neupane said that the number of people is yet to be confirmed.

“The landslide has completely damaged three houses while one house has been partially damaged,” he said. Another person was rescued from the same house in an injured condition.

Inspector Neupane said that it is not clear how many people lived in the three houses. The search for the missing continues.

Chief District Officer of Ramechhap Anita Niraula along with the heads of all three security agencies are heading toward the incident site.

The incident site is about 50 km away from the district headquarters Manthali.
