
Kathmandu — The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Valley Province organized a candlelight vigil on Wednesday evening at Maitighar Mandala in memory of citizens who lost their lives during the anti-corruption Gen Z movement of Bhadra 23 and 24. The program, which began at 5:30 PM, was attended by FNJ Vice President Nitu Pandit, General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal, Treasurer Ram Krishna Adhikari, the chairpersons of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur chapters, and several journalists and media professionals from across the Valley.
The event opened with a minute of silence, paying tribute to the departed souls. Participants also extended wishes for the speedy recovery of journalists and citizens who were injured during the protests. In addition to the vigil, speakers at the program reiterated the Federation’s commitment to press freedom, good governance, and accountability in public service. They called upon authorities to address public grievances and ensure that such sacrifices do not go in vain.
Meanwhile, the Press Council Nepal announced that it will closely monitor media coverage related to anti-corruption movements to promote ethical and balanced reporting. The council also pledged to support journalists who face challenges while covering public protests and to continue training programs aimed at strengthening responsible journalism.
