KATHMANDU: World Children’s Day is being observed today across countries, highlighting the need for social organizations, schools, and communities to actively listen to children and protect their rights.
The day commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, initiated by the United Nations. Led by UNICEF, World Children’s Day serves as a global reminder of the responsibilities of governments and societies to ensure children’s rights and well-being.
On this occasion, UNICEF urged all stakeholders to amplify children’s voices and guarantee their fundamental rights, including protection, education, equality, and opportunities for development. UN Secretary-General António Guterres also called on the global community to pay attention to children’s concerns and aspirations.
Meanwhile, Africa Industrialization Day is also being observed today. Marked annually, the day underscores the importance of sustainable and inclusive industrial development across the African continent.
The United Nations emphasized boosting production capacity, creating jobs, diversifying economies, and reducing poverty as key steps to strengthening Africa’s overall economic resilience.
