CHITWAN: Students from the minority Chepang community in Rapti Municipality Ward No. 10 were filled with joy after receiving new school bags. Social worker and Lions Club of Kathmandu, Padmapani President PMJF Pasang Kaji Sherpa, who also serves as an advisor to the FONIJ, reached the remote settlement and distributed school bags to 127 students.

Speaking at the distribution program, Sherpa said he felt deeply satisfied to support hardworking and needy children living in remote areas. “It saddened me to learn that many children are deprived of schooling due to financial hardship. Being here in person and helping them has been a heartfelt experience,” he shared.

He added that it is unfortunate that thousands of children in Nepal are still deprived of education due to poverty and lack of awareness. Sherpa expressed his commitment to continuing such support for underprivileged children in the future.

School Principal Dasharath Lama said most families in the area struggle financially, making it difficult for them to send their children to school. “Parents can barely manage food for six months even after working all year. Sherpa’s support has motivated students to attend classes. We hope for similar support in the days to come,” he said.

Calling for wider assistance, Principal Lama added, “I have worked here for 25 years. Many children lack basic stationery and uniforms. I appeal to other organizations to extend support. Some students even come to school just for the midday meal because they don’t get enough food at home.”

Lions Club Secretary Dr. Devraj Aryal said Sherpa’s long-held dream of supporting children in remote regions had been fulfilled through this initiative. “He has been helping the poor, orphaned and helpless for years. It is an honor to be here and distribute school bags,” he said.

School Management Committee Chairperson Parshuram Praja also expressed gratitude to the Lions Club of Kathmandu, Padmapani and Sherpa for their meaningful contribution.

The event was attended by Phonej Central Treasurer Arjun Bahadur Tamad, Nepal Tamang Ghedung Central Member Wilam Moktan, Lions Club members Pema Sundar Sherpa and Lopchan Sherpa, FNJ Kathmandu Vice President Hem Bahadur Rana ‘Kamal’, Economic Plus Online Director Amir Lama, teachers, and local parents.
