Kathmandu, Nepal — A total of 64 political parties have submitted their closed lists under the proportional representation system for the upcoming House of Representatives election, Nepal’s Election Commission has said.

According to the Commission, the schedule for submitting proportional representation closed lists was set for Poush 13 and 14 at the office of the election officer for the proportional system, located at the Election Commission headquarters in Bahadur Bhawan.

Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that 64 parties submitted their lists by late Monday night and Tuesday morning.

For the 110 proportional representation seats, the closed lists include the names of 3,424 candidates from 64 political parties. Of the parties that submitted lists, 54 filed candidates under their own election symbols, while 10 parties submitted candidates under shared election symbols.

The Commission said the submission process continued late into the night due to unity and cooperation agreements among some political parties. A total of 93 political parties had applied to contest under the proportional system.

The Election Commission will scrutinise the submitted lists from Poush 15 to 20. Parties will be given time from Poush 21 to 27 to correct any errors or submit missing documents. The revised lists will be reviewed again from Poush 28 to Magh 3.

The final proportional representation candidate list will be published on Magh 20, the Commission said.
