Kathmandu: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has urged the public to prepare confidently for the upcoming elections, insisting that the vote will be held on schedule despite concerns over possible disruptions.

Speaking at a programme in the capital on Sunday, Bhandari said any attempts to obstruct the electoral process would fail and reaffirmed that polling would take place on the announced date and time.

He noted that some candidates had approached him with doubts about the process, but encouraged them to continue campaigning calmly and without confusion. He warned that “frustrated elements” might try to spread rumours for political gain, adding that the public would not tolerate such efforts.

“The only alternative to good governance is the election itself. The election atmosphere will not be disrupted,” he said.

Bhandari said political parties, candidates and their supporters were actively engaged in campaigning, and that both established and newer political forces had accepted elections as the democratic way forward.

He added that the government had been instructed to prevent activities that could create instability, while the Election Commission Nepal continues to monitor the situation and recommend measures to ensure a peaceful environment.

The acting chief commissioner also called on all stakeholders to strictly follow the election code of conduct. He expressed concern that some media outlets were conducting opinion polls despite repeated warnings, and said action would be taken against organisations found to be violating the rules.Tools
