KATHMANDU: With just a week left before the voter registration deadline for Nepal’s upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for March 5, 2026, the District Election Office in Kathmandu has seen a steady stream of citizens eager to add their names to the rolls.

The process, while briefly slowed by intermittent server outages, has largely proceeded smoothly, according to both officials and registrants.

“I believe the next leadership should come from young people,” said Florence Subedi, a first-time voter who described herself as part of Generation Z. “I’m excited to finally have a say in the country’s future.” She noted that despite the minor technical issues, she didn’t have to wait long in line.

Srijana Rayamajhi, the office’s information officer, said the registration system has experienced heavier traffic in recent days as enrollment is being conducted simultaneously across all 77 districts. “The interest has been remarkable,” she said. “People are showing real enthusiasm to take part in the democratic process.”
