KATHMANDU – The Department of Immigration is set to roll out a new Foreign Nationals Registration and Monitoring System aimed at strengthening security, streamlining information access, curbing potential crimes, and boosting tourism promotion.

According to the department’s director, Tikaram Dhakal, the system will ensure proper records of the stay and activities of foreigners entering Nepal, while also making rescue and security measures more effective in times of emergency.

The system will come into effect from October 17 (Ashoj 1) in the first phase, making it mandatory for all star hotels within the Kathmandu Valley. In the second phase, the department plans to expand the provision to all star hotels across the country, airlines, tour and travel companies, money exchangers, as well as other hotels, guest houses, and both public and private institutions.

Officials said that the new system will facilitate digital registration of foreign nationals, allowing the government to continuously monitor their presence and activities in Nepal.
