Kathmandu: Opposition parties have decided to continue their protest in the House of Representatives, insisting that Prime Minister Balen Shah clarify his controversial remarks regarding the Nepal-India border dispute.

The opposition plans to raise the issue as soon as Thursday’s House session begins before allowing parliamentary proceedings to move forward.

The dispute arose from Prime Minister Shah’s response during a question and answer session in Parliament on May 31, where he stated that while India had encroached on Nepal’s territory, Nepal had also occupied Indian land in several places.

Opposition lawmakers have demanded that the Prime Minister either present factual evidence to support the claim or apologize and have the statement removed from the official parliamentary record.

They have continued obstructing House proceedings over the issue for nearly two months.

In an effort to resolve the deadlock, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal met Prime Minister Shah at Singha Durbar on Wednesday and urged him to address the House. According to the Speaker, the Prime Minister said he would consider the proposal.

Despite the ongoing standoff, Thursday’s parliamentary agenda includes special and zero-hour sessions, where lawmakers are expected to raise issues of public concern, along with a proposal to refer a bill to a parliamentary committee for detailed discussion.
