KATHMANDU: A total of 219 families have been displaced following the removal of squatter settlements in Thapathali, Gairigaun and Sinamangal, carried out under the direction of Balendra Shah.

By Sunday midday, around 997 individuals from the affected families had taken temporary shelter at Dasharath Rangasala.

The settlements were cleared with the support of police and families with no immediate housing alternatives were initially relocated to the stadium. Authorities have since collected their details and arranged temporary accommodation in five designated holding centers.

The data collection and management of the displaced population are being jointly handled by the Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee and the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority.

In the absence of a clear long term rehabilitation plan from the government and relevant agencies, concerns remain over the worsening condition of the displaced families.
