Kathmandu: Sudan Gurung and Mahabir Pun took the oath of office and secrecy as ministers on Tuesday amid a formal ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas.
President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office to the newly appointed ministers.
Gurung, who had resigned from the Home Ministry on April 22, has been reappointed to the same portfolio, marking his return to the ministry after nearly two months.
Meanwhile, Mahabir Pun has been appointed Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation. Pun, a renowned social innovator and independent lawmaker elected from Myagdi, previously served as Education Minister in an interim government.
The appointments come following the government’s recent restructuring of ministries and cabinet portfolios.
However, Gurung’s reinstatement has drawn criticism from some quarters.
Critics have questioned the decision to return him to the Home Ministry, arguing that the report submitted by an investigation committee formed under the government led by Balen Shah was not adequately reviewed before his reappointment.
The oath taking ceremony was attended by senior government officials, political leaders and other dignitaries.
