Kathmandu: The world governing body of football, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation AFC have issued a strong final warning to Nepal.
They have stated that Nepal will face immediate suspension from international football if third party interference in the All Nepal Football Association ANFA does not stop completely.
ANFA received a joint letter from FIFA and AFC five days ago (on 5 June 2026) and has now made it public. In the letter, FIFA and AFC noted that the National Sports Council NSC is still interfering in ANFA’s affairs.
Although the NSC lifted ANFA’s suspension on 15 May, it has not withdrawn other decisions made on 25 March. FIFA and AFC have described the NSC’s instructions asking ANFA to stop elections, amend its statutes and conduct district association elections as “unwarranted interference by a third party.”
Through ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai, FIFA and AFC have formally drawn the NSC’s attention and demanded written confirmation by 11 June that the decisions made on 25 March have been fully revoked.
The letter clearly states that if a satisfactory response is not received within the given deadline, the matter will be referred to the FIFA Council and Nepal will face immediate suspension.
This warning could put Nepali football in serious crisis. If suspended, Nepal will not be able to participate in international competitions, dealing a major blow to the development of football in the country.
Football fans in Nepal hope that the dispute between ANFA and the NSC will be resolved quickly.
