Kathmandu: Nepal ended their Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign with a close 10 run win over Oman. The result keeps Nepal’s ODI status alive.

Nepal finished sixth in the eight team table. The United States topped the standings with 49 points.

Nepal batted first and were bowled out for 280 in 50 overs. Rohit Paudel led the way with a brilliant 80 off 81 balls.

Dev Khanal supported him well and made 57. Dipendra Singh Airee then smashed a quick 69 to lift the total.

Oman’s Faisal Shah was the pick of the bowlers. He took five wickets but Nepal still reached a strong score.
Oman did not give up easily. They fought hard in the chase and finished at 270/7 in their 50 overs.

Jatinder Singh played a superb knock of 89. Hammad Mirza hit a fast 87.

The two batters made Nepal’s bowlers work hard and for a while the chase looked dangerous.

Nepal’s bowlers held their nerve in the final overs. Airee and Lalit Rajbanshi took two wickets each.

Their wickets slowed Oman down at the key moments and the team fell just ten runs short.

Airee was named player of the match for his work with both bat and ball. For Nepal, the win mattered more than the table position.

Finishing sixth was not what the team wanted. But the victory in the last game secured the team’s place in ODI cricket.

Under captain Sandeep Lamichhane, Nepal ended the tournament on a positive note. The United States, with 49 points, finished well clear at the top.
