The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the government to guarantee that business and personal properties will remain safe from attacks in the future.

A delegation led by FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal met with Minister for Industry, Commerce, Supplies and Law, Anil Kumar Sinha, at the Ministry on Thursday and submitted the request.

FNCCI expressed concern over incidents of vandalism and arson targeting industries, business establishments, offices, and even private residences during recent youth-led protests. The Federation stressed that ensuring safety is crucial to boost the morale of entrepreneurs and the general public.

During the meeting, President Dhakal called for strict action against those involved in such attacks and highlighted that the damages caused during the protests amounted to nearly NPR 80 billion nationwide.

“For the country’s economic progress, it is essential to end uncertainty and establish good governance. The private sector, which contributes 81% to the national economy and 86% to employment, must be ensured an environment to work without disruption,” Dhakal emphasized.

Minister Sinha acknowledged the heavy losses faced by the private sector and commended its continued goodwill and cooperation. He assured that the government remains committed to the security of citizens and businesses despite the challenging circumstances under which the current government was formed.

FNCCI Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha also noted that private businesses are frequently targeted during protests and called for a shift in perception towards the private sector. He further urged for the maximum use of domestic products in the ongoing reconstruction efforts.
