Pokhara: Nepal’s Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said that spreading misinformation suggesting elections will not be held undermines democracy and cannot be justified.
Speaking at a provincial-level security conference in Pokhara, Mr Aryal stressed that the rule of law and free and fair elections are fundamental pillars of a democratic system. He warned against attempts to evade the electoral process or create doubt about the conduct of elections.
“The foundation of democracy lies in the rule of law and independent elections,” he said. “Creating confusion by claiming elections will not take place, or attempting to weaken good governance, is unacceptable.”
The Home Minister identified looted weapons and fugitive prisoners as major security challenges, noting that the government and the home administration are actively addressing these concerns. He said the Home Ministry is continuously working to respond to security issues raised by political parties.
Mr Aryal also said the government remains responsible, sensitive and accountable in its engagement with political parties, adding that it is open to dialogue, talks and discussions to address outstanding issues.
He reiterated that ensuring security, strengthening democratic institutions and holding credible elections remain key priorities for the government.
