KATHMANDU: Weather conditions across Nepal have turned unstable under the combined influence of a western low pressure system and local winds, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is currently affecting parts of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces as well as hilly regions of Koshi Province and some areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim.

According to the Department, this afternoon will see generally cloudy skies over hilly and mountainous regions including Koshi Province while other areas are expected to remain partly cloudy.

There is a possibility of moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning in some hilly and mountainous regions along with isolated impacts in parts of Madhesh Province.

Tonight, weather conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly regions including Koshi with partly cloudy skies in other hilly areas and mostly clear conditions in the Terai.

Light rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some areas of Koshi and Gandaki’s hilly and mountainous regions and at one or two locations in other mountainous areas.

The Department has urged the public, particularly those in rainfall and snowfall prone areas as well as transport operators to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
