
Kathmandu: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index closed lower on the second trading day of the week, ending a two-day gaining streak as both the benchmark index and trading turnover slipped on Tuesday.
The NEPSE index declined by 9.24 points to close at 2,777.10 points. Other market indicators also posted losses during the session.
The Sensitive Index dropped by 1.45 points, while the Float Index and Sensitive Float Index decreased by 0.69 points and 0.51 points respectively.Market turnover also weakened compared to the previous trading session.
On Monday, the stock market had recorded transactions worth Rs 5.98 billion. However, Tuesday’s turnover fell to Rs 4.85 billion 44 lakh 44 thousand.
According to market data, a total of 1 crore 18 lakh 72 thousand units of shares from 342 companies were traded through 52,751 transactions during the day.
Despite the broader market decline, several hydropower stocks posted notable gains. Kalinchowk Hydropower emerged as the top gainer with a 9.23 percent rise in its share price.
The company had been listed on NEPSE last Friday and began regular secondary market trading from Tuesday.
Similarly, Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower gained 6 percent, while Trishuli Jalvidhyut Company’s share price increased by nearly 6 percent.
On the losing side, declines among stocks remained relatively moderate, with no company recording a drop of more than 4 percent.
In terms of turnover, Aankhu Khola Hydropower Company led the market with share transactions worth Rs 46.72 crore 63 lakh. Ridi Power Company followed with turnover exceeding Rs 16.5 crore, while Sahas Urja recorded transactions worth more than Rs 14 crore.
Sector-wise performance remained largely negative. Out of the 13 trading sub-groups, only two managed to post gains. The Mutual Fund and Non-Life Insurance sub-groups edged higher, while the remaining 11 sectors closed in the red with marginal losses.
