KATHMANDU: The Nepal Casino Association has provided Rs 8.523 million in financial assistance for the relief and rehabilitation of families affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa.
A delegation led by Association President Binod Shrestha, comprising office-bearers, members and general managers of affiliated casinos, handed over the assistance to Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadkaraj (Ganesh) Poudel.
According to the association, the contribution was raised through a joint initiative of affiliated casinos and their employees. Casino Mahjong’s outlets in Kathmandu, Nepalgunj and Birgunj contributed Rs 5.423 million toward the relief effort.
Shrestha, who also serves as chairman of Casino Mahjong, handed over the amount to Minister Poudel. Employees of Casino Mahjong Nepal, Mahjong Birgunj and Mahjong Nepalgunj, along with staff based at the Birgunj and Nepalgunj casinos and Veer Gurkha Security Service, also participated in collecting the funds.
Other casinos affiliated with the association, including Maharaja The Royal Casino in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Badshah Casino, Casino Mahjong Nepal, Mahjong Birgunj and Mahjong Nepalgunj, have also contributed to the relief campaign.
The floods in the Bhotekoshi River caused extensive damage to settlements, houses, businesses and infrastructure along the river corridor, leaving affected families in need of immediate relief as well as longer-term rehabilitation support.
The association said the financial assistance was provided with the objective of supporting affected families during the disaster and contributing to their rehabilitation.
It added that other casinos affiliated with the association have also provided separate assistance to flood victims.
The association expressed the expectation that contributions from the private sector and other organizations would help strengthen ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts for families affected by the disaster.
