Kathmandu: Nepal has officially selected the film “Tiniharu – Elephants in the Fog” as its entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards, to be presented in 2027.

The announcement came in a press release from the International Feature Film Selection Committee (Nepal) dated Sunday, Bhadra 28, 2083. The release stated that two Nepali feature films were submitted for consideration this year: “Tinaharu – Elephants in the Fog” and “Gauthali.”

The Best International Feature Film category is open to feature length films made outside the United States with dialogue mostly in a language other than English. Under Academy rules, each eligible country may submit only one film per year. This means a national committee must review all entries and choose just one to send forward.

The committee said it carefully reviewed both films based on the Academy’s standards, looking at technical quality, storytelling, the emotional depth of the characters and overall artistic craft. After this review, the committee found “Tinaharu – Elephants in the Fog” to be the stronger film and recommended it as Nepal’s official entry to the Academy.
