KATHMANDU: The Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund has accumulated Rs 13.54 billion, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The fund received an additional Rs 282.14 million after 5:00 pm on September 11, with the amount deposited into accounts maintained by the fund at nine different banks.
The government has already released Rs 1 billion from the fund through the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to support people affected by floods and other disasters.
Meanwhile, contributions to the fund’s US dollar-denominated accounts have also continued to increase.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, USD 154,770 was deposited into the fund after 5:00 pm on September 11. The total balance in the dollar-denominated accounts maintained at two banks has now reached USD 23.438 million.
The government has been using the fund to mobilize financial resources for disaster response, relief and rehabilitation efforts across the country.
