    Madhesh Provincial Government Cabinet Gets Full Shape

    Mahendranagar (Dhanusha), Dec 31 — Nearly a month after the formation of a new provincial government under Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav, the Madhesh Provincial Cabinet has been fully constituted with the induction of six additional ministers.

    The newly appointed ministers were sworn in at a special ceremony held at Madhesh Bhawan in Janakpurdham, where they took the oath of office and secrecy before Province Chief Dr Surendra Labh Karn.

    Among the new appointees, Manish Kumar Suman has been assigned the Ministry of Labour and Transport, while Raj Kumar Gupta has been given charge of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development.

    Similarly, Shankar Prasad Chaudhary has been appointed Minister for Forests and Environment, Shyam Prasad Patel for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Basant Kumar Kushwaha for Youth, Sports and Social Welfare, and Fakira Mahato for Home Affairs, Communication and Law.

    With the cabinet now complete, the provincial government expects greater administrative efficiency, faster implementation of development projects, and improved service delivery across Madhesh Province.

    Kathmandu, Nepal — With 65 days remaining until Nepal’s House of Representatives election, the Election Commission has set spending limits for candidates contesting the polls scheduled for Falgun 21.

    The Commission has fixed different expenditure ceilings for candidates contesting in accessible and remote districts.

    According to the Commission, candidates contesting in five constituencies in Kathmandu will be allowed to spend a maximum of Rs 2.5 million. These include Kathmandu Constituencies No. 1, 3, 6, 7 and 8.

    Similarly, the Commission has set the following limits:

    • Rs 2.7 million for candidates in 17 constituencies,
    • Rs 2.9 million for candidates in 65 constituencies,
    • Rs 3.1 million for candidates in 52 constituencies, and
    • Rs 3.3 million for candidates in 26 constituencies,
      Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said.

    Candidates are required to open a separate bank or financial institution account for election expenses, and all expenditures must be made through that account. Candidates must also appoint a designated official responsible for campaign spending and submit the official’s details to the election officer.

    Under the House of Representatives Member Act, candidates must submit their election expenditure details within 35 days of the announcement of election results, the Commission said.

    NCP Recommends Senior Journalist Maheshwor Dahal for Parliament

    The NCP Sindhuli district committee has recommended senior journalist and founding chair of the Press Centre, Maheshwor Dahal, as a direct candidate for the House of Representatives from Sindhuli constituency–2.

    According to party sources, the constituency has previously seen recommendations for senior leaders including party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and former Maoist Centre deputy general secretary Haribol Gajurel. This time, Maheshwor Dahal has also been proposed from the same constituency.

    Widely known for his simple, composed and courteous personality, Dahal is regarded as a respected figure in both politics and journalism. He is said to have a strong ideological base and a reputation for personal integrity in the constituency.

    Meanwhile, the party has recommended the incumbent lawmaker Lekhnath Dahal to contest from Sindhuli constituency–1. Party leaders say the move is aimed at strengthening the party’s hold in Sindhuli amid emerging political challenges.

    Sources say party coordinator Prachanda is currently not inclined to contest elections from Sindhuli. However, several district committees of the CPN (Maoist Centre) have reportedly recommended him from their respective constituencies.

    Former deputy general secretary Haribol Gajurel has publicly argued that senior leaders and former lawmakers, with a few exceptions, should now support new leadership and channel their experience and strength towards advancing the socialist agenda. According to sources, this position has further strengthened Maheshwar Dahal’s candidacy.

    Maheshwar Dahal is considered not only a long-standing party member but also part of the party’s emerging ideological youth leadership.

    श्रोतका अनुसार पार्टी संयोजक प्रचण्ड भने अहिले सिन्धुलीमा चुनाव लड्ने पक्षमा नभएको बताइन्छ। तर थुप्रै नेपाली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टीका जिल्ला समितिले उनलाई आ–आफ्नै क्षेत्रबाट चुनाव लड्न सिफारिस गरेका छन्।

    माओवादीका तत्कालीन उप महासचिव हरिबोल गजुरेलले भने चुनावमा नयाँलाई सहयोग गरेर केही अपवाद बाहेक पूर्व सांसदले आफ्नो अनुभव तथा तागतलाई अब समाजवादी दिशामा लगाउनुपर्ने मत जाहेर गरिरहेका छन्।

    Kathmandu, Nepal — Two factions of Nepal’s Janata Samajwadi movement have formally agreed to reunify, marking a significant political development ahead of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives.

    The unity agreement was signed on Monday between Upendra Yadav, chair of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP-N), and a faction led by Renu Yadav, co-chair of the Janata Samajwadi Party. Leaders from both sides confirmed that the deal includes full organisational integration.

    The agreement follows an earlier unification announced on Sunday between the Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party and the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, indicating broader consolidation efforts among Madhes-based political forces.

    Leaders said the reunification aims to strengthen the protection and promotion of federalism and republicanism, achievements of the Madhes movement, while ensuring the political, social and constitutional rights of the Madhesi community.

    According to Pradeep Yadav, a leader from the Renu Yadav faction, the majority of central committee members will merge back into the original party under the leadership of Upendra Yadav. He described the unity as “inevitable” given the changing political landscape.

    “The decision reflects the aspirations and expectations of the Madhesi people,” he said, adding that the move was made with a focus on collective strength ahead of the national elections.

    The reunification is expected to have a notable impact on Madhes-region politics and electoral alignments in the months ahead.

    The agreement was finalized after extended talks between RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane and Mayor Shah. It outlines leadership roles, party structure, and governance priorities. Under the deal, Shah is positioned to take a leading political role, while Lamichhane retains the party’s chairmanship.

    The pact emphasizes anti-corruption measures, youth participation, and institutional reforms. Party officials described the agreement as a step toward strengthening alternative political forces and presenting a unified front against established parties.

    बुधबार धादिङको बेनिघाट रोराङमा कार्यकर्तासँग कुराकानी गर्दै उनले आगामी चुनावलाई पार्टीको प्रमुख एजेन्डा बनाउँदै अघि बढ्ने बताएका छन्।

    ‘अबको माओवादीको लाइन भनेको चुनाव हो,’ प्रचण्डले भने, ‘साथै तिहारलगत्तै समाजवादी मोर्चाभित्र रहेका दलहरूसँग एकता प्रक्रिया अघि बढ्छ।’

    ललितपुर ।नेकपा (माओवादी केन्द्र) का संयोजक पुष्पकमल दाहालले वर्तमान प्रधानमन्त्री सुशीला कार्कीको नियुक्ति तत्कालीन कामचलाउ प्रधानमन्त्री केपी शर्मा ओलीकै लिखित सिफारिसमा भएको दाबी गरेका छन्। 

    आज सम्पादकहरूसँगको अन्तरक्रियामा बोल्दै उनले राष्ट्रिय सङ्कटको अवस्थामा आवश्यकताको सिद्धान्त अनुसार जेनजी युवाहरूको भावनालाई सम्मान गर्दै कार्कीलाई नियुक्त गरिएको भए पनि संवैधानिक प्रक्रियामा ओली नै सिफारिसकर्ता रहेको बताएका हुन् । अहिले आएर हा हु सरकार भन्न मिल्दैन ।

    ‘कार्कीलाई प्रधानमन्त्री नियुक्तिमा सिफारिस गर्ने उहाँनै हो,’प्रचण्डले भने, ‘केपी ओलीको लिखित सिफारिसको आधारमा राष्ट्रपतिले सुशीला कार्कीलाई अन्तरिम सरकारको प्रधानमन्त्री नियुक्ति गर्नुभएको हो । अहिले यो सरकार हावामा बन्यो भन्न मिल्छ त? उहाँ (ओली) नै सिफारिसकर्ता हो।’ उनले आफूहरू उक्त प्रक्रियाको साक्षी मात्रै रहेको बताए ।

    प्रचण्डले देश गम्भीर सङ्कट र चुनौतीपूर्ण अवस्थाबाट गुज्रिरहेको स्विकार्दै यसको समाधानका लागि सर्वपक्षीय राजनीतिक सहमति आवश्यक रहेकोमा जोड दिए ।

    ‘राष्ट्र सङ्कटमा छ भन्नेमा सबैको सहमति देखियो,’ उनले भने, ‘यसको समाधानका लागि राजनीतिक दल, नागरिक समाज, पत्रकार, बुद्धिजीवी सबै सम्मिलित राष्ट्रिय राजनीतिक सहमतिको खाँचो छ।’उक्त कार्यक्रम प्रेस सेन्टर केन्द्रिय समितिले आयोजना गरेको थियो ।

    Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has vowed that those responsible for violence and destruction during the recent Gen Z movement will face “strong legal action,” as she delivered her first address to the nation on Thursday.

    Violence Leaves 74 Dead, Key Institutions Destroyed

    The Gen Z protests, which began as peaceful demonstrations on September 8, escalated dramatically after police opened fire on protesters that same day, killing 19.

    By the following day, violence had spiraled out of control, leaving at least 74 people dead and causing massive destruction.

    Vital state institutions — including buildings inside Singha Durbar, Parliament, and the Supreme Court — were set ablaze. Several businesses, media houses, and private residences, including those of politicians, were also vandalized or burned down.

    The then KP Oli-led government was widely criticized for excessive use of force on peaceful demonstrators, though authorities claimed the protests were infiltrated by violent groups.

    Elections Scheduled for March 5

    In her televised address, PM Karki reassured the public that free, fair, and fearless elections will be held on March 5, urging political parties to begin preparations.

    “This government was formed with respected figures of society under the mandate of the Gen Z uprising,” Karki said. “The people demanded an end to corruption, good governance, and development — this government will act in line with those expectations.”

    Support for Victims and Reconstruction

    PM Karki announced that those who lost their lives in the protests will be declared martyrs and their families will receive financial relief. Injured protesters will be guaranteed free medical treatment.

    She also pledged reconstruction of public and private properties damaged during the protests, saying work is already in motion.

    Government Working to Ensure Timely Elections

    Karki emphasized that she had accepted the role of interim prime minister on the condition that elections would be conducted within six months.

    She confirmed that discussions on budget, security, and legal frameworks are already underway to ensure that elections take place on time.

    The Rastriya Swatantra Party has selected Dr. Lekh Jung Thapa as its candidate for Rupandehi-3. In a central secretariat meeting held on Monday, Thapa was chosen as the candidate through a preliminary election. Following the meeting, Vice Chairperson D.P. Aryal announced Thapa as the candidate at the party office and handed him the bell symbol.

    “Dr. Thapa has been proposed as the candidate for Rupandehi-3, and the remaining eight will serve as his campaign team,” Vice Chairperson Aryal stated. Nine candidates had competed in the preliminary election. Alongside Thapa, the contenders included Kusum Maharjan, Madhu Aryal, Sulabh Kharel, Parthivendra Upadhyay, Gyan Poudel, Jit Bahadur Gupta, Rachana Kshetri, and Poonam Kumari Agrawal.

    Party Chairperson Ravi Lamichhane met all aspiring candidates at Nakkhu Prison on Sunday morning. During the meeting, he conveyed that only one candidate would be chosen, while the others would get opportunities in 084, wishing them success in the election. Thapa emphasized that his agenda focuses on free healthcare and removing hassles for patients at hospitals. He stated that he is committed to campaigning for the changes that the people desire and will continue to strive for them. Lamichhane remarked that this is not just an election, but a revolution, and he intends to approach it in that spirit.
