KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party NCP has said his party will continue to stake its claim to the post of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Speaking briefly to the media at the party headquarters in Parisdanda before attending a meeting, Dahal reaffirmed the party’s position stating that although the claim remains intact, no concrete progress has been made so far.

“We have a claim to the Deputy Speaker position. However, no concrete development has taken place so far,” he said.

Besides the NCP, other political parties including the Nepali Congress, Sharam Sanskriti Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have also shown interest in the post indicating growing competition.

Meanwhile, DP Aryal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has been elected unopposed as Speaker.

The race for the Deputy Speaker position is expected to intensify in the coming days as parties continue negotiations and political maneuvering.
